Greenwave Stories

Some teams are remembered for winning championships. Others are remembered for the way they chose to play for one another while chasing that championship.

The newest episode in the Greenwave Stories series, The Team Came First, tells the story of the 1993 Lady Wave softball team, the first softball team in school history to win a regional championship and advance to the state tournament.

Unlike teams built around individual attention, players and coaches describe this group as one that genuinely cared for each other, trusted one another, and understood that success depended on everyone doing their part. Years of playing together before high school had created a bond that showed up in both the dugout and on the field.

As postseason play began, that connection became even more visible. The Lady Wave scored 50 runs across three regional tournament games, defeating strong opponents and earning the program’s first trip to the state tournament through a championship run that reflected both offensive strength and defensive consistency

More than three decades later, former players and coaches still describe that season as one defined by trust, work ethic, and a belief that the team always came before individual roles.

This episode reflects on how historic accomplishments often begin with shared expectations, and how one Lady Wave team helped establish a lasting chapter in Meade County softball history.
